My Tour de France...

Yesterday was the first day of my 3-week French escapade!  I decided to write my journal on here so I can share it with you.  I'll try to upload pictures and tell you all the juicy secrets ... :-)

I was first determined to visit la Cascade de la Vis at the bottom of the Cevennes eventhough the weather had been pretty scary over the weekend and the road to access this man-made waterfall was closed.  I took a chance, the road opened up and I got to see this part of the Gard I didn't know.

From there I headed to Creissels where I would spend the night.  Lovely road through the Causses with a quick stop on the way when this dead tree sculpture caught my eye...

Before checking in, I decided to take a look at the Viaduc de Millau.  Enormous bridge of 2.5km with a steep toll (8.50 euros) but a great architecture.

It was almost 6pm and time to check in my Airbnb.  I grabbed some salmon and green beans for dinner (today was not about food sorry... but don't worry that too shall come) and headed to Creissels.  Cute little town in a valley next to Millau.  It has a small castle (which is a hotel) and a church.  What I didn't expect were all cascades... My host recommended I took a 15-minute walk to the cascades, starting by the city hall and following the stream.  I had no idea what to expect and this nature-made waterfall blew my mind!!

I don't think this picture pays it justice.  It was just an unexpected gorgeous place.  Hard to believe I was in France, in Aveyron.  I really thought I had been transported to a tropical island!  The walk to this fall was also lovely and the gardeners along the stream take full advantage of their free water.  Creissels surprised me.  Definitively a good start to my tour..
